Owner's Representative—New York, New York

United Nations International School

The United Nations International School (UNIS) selected Jonathan Rose Companies as their real estate advisor in the Spring of 2007. Jonathan Rose Companies completed a feasibility study for new construction and renovation of the School's Manhattan Campus. The facility and site improvements will support UNIS vision of providing an “environment for optimal learning and teaching in an international setting that fosters understanding and cooperation.”

UNIS is an independent, international K-12 school founded by parent employees of the United Nations. Inspired by the ideals of the UN, the school serves children and youth from the UN community, the diplomatic corps, the non-governmental international sector and local New York families. It is a microcosm of a world for which all peace loving people yearn.

The project is intended to enhance educational programs for UNIS's community of approximately 1,400 students. A new kindergarten is planned, as well as a re-configuration of the existing site entry, garden court, lobby, and a large auditorium with support services and a multi-use gymnasium. The mechanical and life safety systems will also be upgraded to meet current standards.

Both the renovation and any new construction are to be designed in an environmentally sensitive manner providing an ideal atmosphere for learning and creating an integral teaching tool to enhance environmental literacy among the students, staff and families.
